“Musca domestica fracti”

A fly was buzzing,
trapped between the blinds
and the window.
I ripped open the shutters
and smashed
its guts on the glass;
a flick of my wrist
and slap of my fist.
It looks a perfect specimen
for a microscope slide;
"Musca domestica fracti"
I leave it there
a black dot and red splat;
an offering for the spiders
and warning to everyone
who can't keep a quiet calm
in my presence.
